Merry Christmas!

Tis the season for candy canes, Christmas sales, and Santa’s at the mall… but what is Christmas really about?

Over 2000 years ago, God sent the angel Gabriel to Mary. Gabriel said to Mary, “Peace be with you!” God has blessed you and is pleased with you. The angel said to her “Don’t be afraid, God has been kind to you. You will become pregnant by the Holy Spirit and give birth to a baby boy and you will call him Jesus. He will be God’s own son and his kingdom will have no end.” Mary was afraid but she trusted God. “let it happen as God chooses,” Mary replied.

Joseph was worried when he found out that Mary was expecting Before their marriage. the Angel appeared to him in a dream and said “Do not be afraid to have Mary as your wife.” The Angel explained that Mary had been chosen by God to be the mother of his son and told Joseph that the baby would be named Jesus, which means “savior”, because he would save people.

After long weary travels to Bethlehem, the time had come for Mary to give birth in the place where the animals slept, the only lodging they could find. Mary gave birth to Jesus, the son of God, and laid him in the manger.

A new bright star appeared in the Sky. Three wise men from distant lands saw the start and set out to find the new King and bring him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. They followed the star towards Bethlehem; it seemed to shine directly down upon the place where Jesus was.

In the hills and fields outside of Bethlehem, shepherds looked after their sheep through the long night. As the new day began, an Angel appeared before them. The shepherds were scared but the Angel said, “Don’t be afraid, I have good news for you and everyone. Today in Bethlehem a savior has been born to you.”

Every Christmas there are tons of deals with catch phrases like “Buy One Get One Free,” but God has given us the best deal, salvation through His Son Jesus Christ… a deal that not even the largest of franchises can even compete with.
